Client Objective
The client had reached a point where its manufacturing processes could no longer be effectively supported by the systems it used. Production planning relied heavily on spreadsheets and manual scheduling, creating a fragile process that oftenled to stress, inefficiency and inconsistencies. Warehouse transactions
were frequently recorded outside of SAP once the physical activity occurred, resulting in data delays, stock inaccuracies and audit concerns. The Finance team also lacked visibility into the true cost of production, making it difficult to understand material consumption, processing effort and overall product profitability.
The client engaged TransformUp Consulting to establish a stable, integrated SAP framework for production planning, warehouse operations and product costing, one that aligned with the clients design standards, reduced manual dependencies, improved accuracy and created a foundation suitable for the pending S/4 HANA migration.
Our Solution
TransformUp Consulting delivered a complete implementation of SAP Production Planning, Warehouse Management and Product Costing based on the approved business blueprint.
The work began with extensive discovery across the client’s operational areas, validating requirements and designing SAP processes that reflected both best practice and the realities of their manufacturing workflow. Once the blueprint was endorsed, TransformUp Consulting implemented the Production Planning module to introduce a structured, system driven manufacturing process. The implementation of MRP ensured that material availability and procurement were controlled by the system rather than spreadsheets, supported by a thorough cleansing of Bills of Materials, Routings and Material Master Data.
Warehouse Management was designed to ensure all stock movements were represented into SAP at the moment they occurred. TransformUp Consulting delivered a barcode enabled solution using handheld scanners, shifting warehouse activity from paper-based recording to real time transactional accuracy. This repositioned the warehouse team as the primary owners of inventory data and resolved longstanding segregation of duties issues by re-establishing clear boundaries across operational teams.
In parallel, TransformUp Consulting worked closely with the client’s Finance team to implement Product Costing, establishing consistent cost estimates that reflected actual production processes. This provided Finance with accurate inputs for pricing, budgeting and monthly reporting, all within a structure compatible with the clients global standards. The implementation was supported by targeted user training, a structured UAT cycle and an onsite hypercare period that covered a complete month end to ensure stability.
Outcome and Impact
The implementation fundamentally reshaped how the client operates within SAP. Production planning transitioned from a manual, reactive process to a reliable system driven workflow that supports forward scheduling, accurate material planning and greater operational control. Planners now work with data they can trust, and manufacturing activities are aligned to what the system determines as achievable and properly resourced.
Warehouse operations experienced an equally significant transformation. With scanners and real-time SAP entry, stock accuracy improved immediately, and the delays and errors associated with manual recording were removed. The business gained clear visibility of inventory at all times, while strengthened role definitions restored compliance and eliminated audit risks that had persisted since the original SAP go live.
For Finance, the introduction of structured Product Costing brought clarity to manufacturing performance. Standard costs are now meaningful, consistent and traceable, giving leadership a much more accurate understanding of product profitability and cost drivers. This clarity supports stronger commercial decisions and provides a solid foundation for future enhancements as the organisation moves toward SAP S/4HANA.
Overall, the client gained an integrated, disciplined and scalable SAP environment. The business moved away from spreadsheets and manual workarounds and now operates with the accuracy, transparency and system driven consistency required for long-term growth. The project not only resolved immediate process challenges but also established a robust platform that will support the clients broader digital and operational roadmap for years to come.
